A Sledge Hammer For Polishing Floors

An athletes internal language/reality creates the perspective from which they see and experience the world. The perspective is being constructed daily.

It is a lifelong process of build,

tear down,

update the design,

rebuild.

While athletes are the builders, coaches are contractors in the construction. Coaches aren’t the ones doing the work but their presence provides the plan, tools, and resources to build.

A coach’s language is just one tool they provide for athletes to utilize during construction.

Sometimes it is the perfect tool necessary for the job at hand.

Other times athletes are handed a sledge hammer to polish the floors.

As coaches - the how, what, when, where and why of what we say to athletes is crucial to the world they are constructing in their spirit and mind. Be a coach who provides the proper tools at the proper time for the job and teaches the athlete how to utilize it best in their growth.

Coaches who haven’t done the self work are the same coaches handing everyone a sledge expecting a delicate Faberge egg at the end of the day. Do the work so you and your athletes can grow and evolve into whats next.
